2011 Safety Resolutions: Safety at Home

Comments Off

While temperatures are very cold and below freezing during the winter months, we often turn to additional sources to heat our homes. It is very important to place space heaters and other heat sources at least three feet away from flammable materials like bedding, furniture, and window treatments. Tragically, we all hear every year how house fires are started by these additional heat sources when they are placed too close to flammable materials.

If you utilize a woodburning fireplace, have it inspected and cleaned, if necessary, every year. Do not burn dry decorative greenery in the fireplace as it could ignite suddenly and burn intensely. Use a sturdy fireplace screen to prevent sparks from igniting carpet and upholstery. Stay safe this winter.
