DePuy’s ASR XL Acetabular System and ASR Hip Resurfacing System hip replacements were recalled in August, 2010. The recall was due to high failure rates within five years of the hip replacement. Patients who have received the recalled devices have experienced pain, loosening, dislocation, and metallosis.
Since the recall, thousands of lawsuits have been filed against DePuy/Johnson & Johnson by those affected by the ASR hip replacements. Similar lawsuits are being filed against DePuy relating to certain Pinnacle models. These lawsuits are being handled through a process called multi district litigation, also known as MDL. In the MDL, the discovery process is consolidated for the parties, which is cost and time efficient. Discovery is currently being conducted in the DePuy ASR MDL.
Goodson & Company is representing those with DePuy hip replacements. If you think that you or someone you know may be affected, we would be happy to speak with you about it.
